Price Rs.14999/-
Its is said you have to master every sense to reach the top we will be witnessing that practice here. Today we are here to talk about the Infocus's first every laptop they have launched for the general public, the Infocus Buddy V+. As there is no doubt that Infocus is a very good smartphone maker and now with their Buddy V+ lets see what they have in store for us.
Brief Description
As their first ever laptop, they have targeted the budget segment of the market pricing it at Rs.14999/- on Snapdeal. Weighing just over a kilo, they have surley done a fine job by making a very good looking product considering this is their first time in this arena. It is housed by a 1.6GHz ( Turbo boost 2.16GHz ) Intel Braswell Celeron N3050 Quad-Core processor with 2GB of Ram. It has a 13.3 inches full HD 1366x768 display and fitted with 32GB internal memory which is expandable upto 256GB via an SSD slot and also has an SD card slot.
Infocus has made this device available in two colors and that are Silver and Gold with factory installed windows 10. On the front it features a 1MP HD and integrated microphone for video calling. As of connectivity it supports WiFi, Bluetooth, 1 HDMI port, 1 headphone and mic port and 2X USB 3.0 port and all the hardware is powered by a 3275mAh Li polymer battery which can give the laptop a life of around 8 hours.
Looks and Design
Looks wise they did one hell of a job by making this and there is no doubt about that. The smooth metal finish and the color looks very good but the problem with low price is that you have to compromise somewhere and here it is the build quality. As they have used plastic and a very delicate one, to reduce the production cost it feel very vulnerable to applied some physical force on the front and on the top panel.
It has a small, non-numpad Keyboard to make the device more smaller and sleeker. the touchpad at the bottom is just so-so good because like I said you have to compromise somewhere. There also one more issue and that is the lack of USB port. It has 2 USB 3.0 port on the same side and if you plug a pendrive and a mouse, there is no port left for other devices. Also, these ports are so tightly crammed that sometimes because of a wide USB of a pendrive or a dongle renders the other port useless as there is no space to use the other one.
Hardware and Performance
As of the performance, this laptop is made and priced for user only normal user who like to have a device for day to day use like students and at home and that field it is very good as it is very responsive to word and other text related software. This can also be said for browsing and other web related task that doesn't require lots of processing power.
The display looks very good and here it is something they did a fine job on. It is good enough to watch HD movie with satisfaction and no issue. But that's it, if you stress the the hardware of the laptop, the processor and the RAM has to pay the toll as the 2GB RAM is not good enough for gaming and the integrated GPU doesn't helps a bit.
But there is a good side, that is the power usage as it can stretch upto 8 hours on its good days an that you can thank to the 2GB RAM and the Intel Celeron processor. Sure they make it very hard for us to push the laptop a bit but they helps in reducing the power usage of the laptop which extends the battery life. One thing they could have done better by increasing the internal storage because we all now that 32GB is not good enough for mobiles let alone be used in a laptop. They sure gives you an option of upgrading the memory but you have to spend an extra few bucks on that on but that is always a bummer.
Verdict
As their first product in the market they did a appreciable job by making a very good looking laptop and those who love Infocus should check this out. But comparing to other products in this segment it is no where near good. Lack of good performance and good ergonomic just sink its ship but we will let it go as it is their first try but expectations were high as the are very fine smartphone maker and they could have done better by raising the production cost and adding a little more punch to it.
