UE Boom 2 is the second product and follow up of UE Boom by Ultimate Ears
Brief Description
There have been many major advancements in Bluetooth speakers in past few year and they have become smaller and with better sound and if you are into Bluetooth speaker then there is a chance you might have heard about Ultimate Ears. they were the company that launched UE Boom in 2013 made quite a impression with their good style and even better audio and it was quite obvious that they would release its successor and here we are with UE Boom 2.
First of all I would like to point out its design and you can officially call it one of the most beautiful look gadget on the market. Available in flashy color combinations, Boom 2 boasts stylized looks with good build and design and even superior sound quality.
Build and Design
Design what it did best for the first time and they didn't need that change that a lot so we got UE Boom 2 with slight design changes. Weighing 548gm it is quite light, not the light one on the market but you cannot have good build without some weight.
With a good out shell it can withstand regular wear and tears, hits and drops. it also water resistant so it can also withstand rain, water splashes, with a IPX-7 certificate it is tested to work at a depth of 1m for around half an hour but I don't personally think any body would do that.
The outer body of the Boom 2 is half netted mesh and half rubber. that means the audio outlet is covered by a netted mesh which feels good and durable and the rest of the body, the side and the controls are line with a layer of rubber which gives a good grip on the over all the speaker.
Sound and Performance
No matter how good the out look is, if the sound of a Bluetooth speaker is not good it drops its reputation and sound was what they under they last time and they are set to make things right.
Boom 1 had a pretty decent sound quality with its 360 degree speakers but the problem started when the volume was cranked up. as the volume rose up the sound stared to distort and that was the main problem last time but now what they did is use1.75 inches active drive instead of 1.5 inches and 3 inches passive driver instead of 2 inches which greater increased it sound and is now less likely to distort on higher volumes
Boom 2 also features a mobile app compatible with android and iOS which can be used as a remotely controller to skip and play songs. some other features like track management, audio mixing, and the sound equalizer. it also offers a special feature which enables to user to control the device simultaneously.
Power and Battery
The UE Boom 2 houses the same battery pack as its previous version only this time with higher specs it will come short compared to its older brother but nonetheless it still is quite good for Bluetooth speaker.
It houses a non-removable lithium battery which the company to juice up the device to almost 15 to 16 hours. during our testing it found that they are right but only when the device was used moderately. when was used at its full capacity it lasted between 11 to 12 hours which I think is enough to get you through the day.
