OVERVIEW
The Red Dragon camera is the first major update of the second camera system from RED , based in California . The original RED ONE introduced in 2008 was the first camera to record in 4K . Although there are many cameras now that can do this , the ONE is still the only one that records in RAW . Then came the EPIC , the first 5K camera and now the DRAGON ,a 6K version .
DESIGN AND FORM FACTOR
One of the benefits of using this camera is that the stripped down body weighs only 2kg.This makes it very useful when it comes to operating it on light weight cranes , provided you use small lenses and external power supplies . This small light weight camera body makes it very easy for a Seadycam operator to run a 3D rig .
CAMERA'S IMAGE RESOLUTION
The Red Dragon's 6K sensor is the highest resolution camera sensor available today and produces outstanding images ,whether they are for the internet , large HD display upto a 4K cinema projector . This camera brings premium cinema quality pictures to the cost of shooting on high - end HD video equipment . In addition , because it has a PL mount lens , there are endless options to use supreme quality cinema lenses with this system .
SOME OTHER FEATURES
The sensor is the same size as 35mm movie film . It has a PL lens mount , so that we can use proper cine lenses . It records RAW to solid - state memory magazines . It also produces data at the rate of approx 4 gigabits per minute , which depends on the frame rate , size , resolution and compression , all of which you can adjust according to your project .
For standard use , the camera is usually set up with a project rate of 25 fps , a shutter angle of 180 degrees , ISO at 800 and compression ratio at 8:1 . Once you have captured your image at 6K , you just need to play around with the image , and this is all done in post , where a resize and grade will be the norm .
